ACT Legislative Assembly

Event: Balancing act: managing tensions between the Executive and Parliament

Wednesday 4 November
Exhibition Room, Legislative Assembly

You are invited to the second 2015 event of the ACT Chapter of the Australasian Study of Parliament Group.

Earlier in the year, Clerks of the House of Representatives, Australian Senate and Legislative Assembly of the ACT gave presentations to the group on whether or not a chamber needs a majority to be effective.

This follow up session will, among other matters, explore the age old tension – particularly evident in the Westminster system – that sometimes arises between the prerogatives of executive government and the accountability and scrutiny functions of the legislature.

Vicki Dunne MLA, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, and Shane Rattenbury MLA, Minister for Territory and Municipal Services have kindly agreed to till this ground. Session will be followed by a brief Q&A. Light refreshments will be served.

It would be great to see you there.

RSVP to by 30 October 2015

To be followed by an AGM for the ACT Chapter of the ASPG for individual members of the Group and staff from the Office, the Department of the House of Representatives, and the Department of the Senate.
