Speaker Announces Legislative Assembly Prizes For Art
Vicki Dunne MLA, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, has congratulated the winners of the Legislative Assembly Award, to two final year students from the ANU School of Art.
Announced at an award ceremony as part of the school’s Graduating Exhibition 2014 on Friday night, the two recipients of the awards are:
- Joel Arthur for his work ‘Refraction 31, 2014’ an oil and acrylic painting on board; and
- Harriet Lee Robinson for her work made of hand beaten copper, a set of three from her ‘Rock Vessel’ series. These are based on rocks found in the Gundaroo area.
Each year the Speaker awards two $500 prizes to graduating students of the school to assist these emerging artists with the cost of the materials associated with their artistic practice.
The winning artists are also invited to have their works exhibited in the Assembly building for a year.
“The overall quality of the exhibition was very impressive, as was the immense variety of talent that was on display across all the fields of visual art,” Mrs Dunne said.
“There clearly is considerable creative talent in the student body and I wish all graduands every success into the future”.
“The Legislative Assembly’s Art Advisory Committee has developed a strong relationship with the ANU School of Art and it is a privilege to be able to foster, in this small way, the visual arts in the ACT.”
