OFFICERS OF THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY SWORN IN

In a ground-breaking ceremony today, Speaker, Vicki Dunne MLA, presided over the swearing-in of the inaugural Officers of the Legislative Assembly.

“Today the ACT Auditor-General, ACT Ombudsman and members of the ACT Electoral Commission formalised their appointments as Officers of the Legislative Assembly, which became effective on 1 July 2014,” Mrs Dunne said.

“This is an important development in the history of the Legislative Assembly,” Mrs Dunne said. “It affirms the independence of these officers from the government and any individual ministers. They will report through the Speaker to the Legislative Assembly and will have separate and independent budget allocations.”

Those taking part in today’s swearing-in were:

“I look forward to working with these officers to provide the people of Canberra with continuing good service, but with a new level of independence,” Mrs Dunne said.
