SPEAKER ANNOUNCES LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY PRIZES FOR ART

Vicki Dunne MLA, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, today selected the winners of the Legislative Assembly Award, to two final year students from the ANU School of Art.

Due to be announced at an award ceremony as part of the school’s Graduating Exhibition 2013 on Friday night, the two recipients of the awards are:

·  Harrison Tucker for his work Dry Structured Stool (an interlocking timber sitting stool); and

·  Kael Stasce for his work Assemblage 1 (A mixed media work comprising found objects)

Martin Rowney also received an honourable mention for his work Cultural Landscape.

Each year the Speaker awards the $500 prizes to two graduating students of the school to assist these emerging artists with the cost of the materials associated with their artistic practice.

The winning artists are also invited to have their works exhibited in the Assembly building for one year.

“I was very impressed with the overall quality of the exhibition and the immense variety of talent that was on display across all the fields of visual art,” Mrs Dunne said.

“There clearly is considerable creative talent in the student body and I wish all graduands every success into the future”.

“The Legislative Assembly’s Art Advisory Committee has developed a strong relationship with the ANU School of Art and it is a privilege to be able to foster, in this small way, the visual arts in the ACT.”
