Student Representative Councils—A Parliamentary Model

This resource has been developed as a parliamentary-style model for use in conducting proceedings of a primary school student representative council (SRC). It is based on a number of institutional features of the Legislative Assembly for the ACT. The program acquaints students with a number of key democratic concepts, including the importance of elections and the role of elected representatives in a parliamentary system. Separately from a school’s SRC arrangements, the materials can also be utilised by upper primary teachers to meet the requirements for teaching the Australian Curriculum Civics and Citizenship strand.
