Speaker congratulates ACT Artists

Legislative Assembly Speaker, Vicki Dunne MLA, today warmly congratulated sculptor, Kensuke Todo, and painter Annika Harding on recent awards they have received.

Annika Harding and Kensuke Todo were yesterday awarded Canberra Critics Circle Awards, and Todo went on to be awarded ACT Artist of the Year.

“Mr Todo is an artist of extraordinary talent and has made a significant contribution to Canberra’s visual arts scene since his arrival from Kyoto, Japan, in 1999,” Mrs Dunne said.”

Earlier this year, Mr Todo had a retrospective exhibition which drew critical acclaim helping to establish him as a respected artist in our city.

“His award winning work “Rest”, a new acquisition by the Legislative Assembly, is a brilliant work that has already drawn considerable interest and attention,” said Mrs Dunne.

Ms Harding’s work is a series of paintings called “Sentinels, Tidbinbilla (1-10)”. This work is currently on display in the London Circuit corridor of the Assembly building, where it is clearly visible from the street.

“I am pleased that the Assembly’s latest art acquisitions include their works which are now proudly on display,” said Mrs Dunne.

“I wish both artists every success in their future careers,” Mrs Dunne concluded.
